UUCGV President’s Report August, 2011
UUCGV was mostly quiet during the month of July, as most people were out of town for the summer holidays. I did field one issue from a few people, which is the issue of how we vet the people who speak from our pulpit and the time for all ages. Since our minister and the DRE and the worship director were all out of town, I allowed this issue to come to me without worrying about triangulation. My plan is to send this to the worship committee, the DRE, and our minister to determine whether a policy review is necessary.
I also contacted the administrator of the UCC church to rent their building for our leadership retreat on the 27th of August. The fee is $100.00, which I am hoping can come out of the leadership development fund. I’ve contacted Connie Dolezal, of the Leadership Development Team to help the team leaders find leadership development tools via the UUA, our local college system, MDD and UUA conferences, and the Alban Institute webinars . I’ve also been in communication with David Miller to teach the team leaders and the board (in separate sessions) about our covenant of right relations. I’ll also be in touch with the members of the policy review committee and the finance committee to facilitate some of the leadership retreat.
There has been some talk about how far the oversight of the Board should go. I feel we need to have a greater discussion regarding our fiduciary and responsibilities, as well as some of the unspoken expectations of the Board. I’d like to discuss this at the leadership retreat.
