Sermon: Mother's Day (Sanctuary, from May 10, 2009 10:30 AM to May 10, 2009 11:30 AM)
Every culture has its grounding elements. Throughout western history and in much of eastern thinking, the mother is the holder of the heart. Whether it be Mata Amritanandamayi Devi or Mother Earth, it is the mother who heals, who holds, and who nurtures all. This service will be devoted to the Holy Mother — the beginning and ending is cultural for all. Who is the Holy Mother? Is it possible to place a cultural burden on motherhood or do mothers call us to conscience? It is Mother’s Day.
Sermon: Memorial Day (Sanctuary, from May 24, 2009 10:30 AM to May 24, 2009 11:30 AM)
Who are you? Many of us have had to overcome our past. But, many have not. When one tells a story, it’s possible to take a set of facts and stand in a different place when looking at them. We have to power to tell a story any way we want. This service will be concerned with the stories that shape our lives. The first story is our family story. The second story is our community story. The third story is that of our region. The story of Memorial Day is actually the fourth story, that of our nation. We gather to remember those who died for their country. The path through these stories is never a straight one. What is yours?
Religious Education Sunday (Sanctuary, from May 17, 2009 10:30 AM to May 17, 2009 11:30 AM)
Highlights from our children and youth classes from the past year.
Pastoral Service (Sanctuary, from May 31, 2009 10:30 AM to May 31, 2009 11:30 AM)
This will be the third and last pastoral service this church year. It is an invitation to bring our hopes, fears, triumphs, and difficulties to the congregation. Most of the service is a candle lighting much like ‘Cares and Concerns’ in many other churches. The primary human need is to contribute. It is a time to invite other members of the congregation to be part of our lives and to contribute to our well being. It is also a wonderful opportunity respond to another’s invitation.
