The ides of March
Reverend Zakir L. Henson at the pulpit

Spring and the usual flurry of activity and rebirthing accompanying spring will come n the outdoors with March, but new activities are underway inside our congregational abode-- our collective spiritual home!
Look at the enclosed newsletter calendar to see what is happening on Fridays. This will be the third month of our once a month bluegrass jam (come to play or socialize and listen—bring friends!). Welcoming Congregation regarding Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender oriented persons should have a movie on one Friday, and Social action should have another. We have our own digital projector now and I must confess it looks good projected on our 72 inch portable screen, with excellent sound projecting overhead as well as off of two front speakers (thanks to Robert Bowe)! UU101 classes are in session and open to both new and existing members—contact Zakir or Membership team for info, but it is my understanding that all are welcome even if earlier sessions have been missed.
Stewardship has officially “Kicked off,” and will be in process throughout March. Certainly many are holding their pocketbooks a bit tighter in these economic times, but I hope that all by all of us individually assessing the things that truly make a difference in our own lives, in the lives of others, and in our world, Unitarian Universalism, and associated social justice issues (including more peace and environmentalism in the world) will rise to the top. Call me a dreamer, but I hope that nearly all can at least match, if not slightly exceed our giving from this current year! Our budget for next year and our ability to pay rent and have Zakir as our minister rest entirely on our collective pledges!
I hope to see you Sunday, March 22nd at the potluck and Town Hall meeting after congregational services. Again, this is a time for members to consider leadership positions for the coming year, to become educated about what each position entails, and give direction to the board and Zakir as to what you like and dislike, or what you want to see in our continued church programs.
Distant dates to put on your calendar
Sunday, March 22nd
We'll have a "Town hall meeting" after services. This is a meeting to talk in an organized fashion about us as a congregation-what people like, what people dislike, what we want more of, what our plans are for the upcoming year, and what we collectively want to see long term. The town hall meeting is a time for members to consider leadership positions for the coming year and to become educated about what each position entails. In summary, the Town hall meeting "sets up" our May 17th all congregational meeting (Note MAY, not June, this year!)
July 26- August 1st
Members interested in leadership are encouraged to consider attending Russell Lockwood Leadership School (RLLS), put on by the UUA Mountain Desert District, in which you will learn as much about yourself and Unitarian Universalism as you will about leadership. RLLS will be taking place at St. Malo's retreat in Estes Park, Colorado.
Yours in Faith--- Bill Hilty, UUCGV Board President
