Social Action Team
The Social Action Team works to provide peace, justice and help for the Grand Valley
Some of the activities this group provides are:
- Change for Change: raises money each month for local charities through the Sunday service offering.
- Homeless Shelter Overflow: coordinates two weeks of sheltering in our own sanctuary in the winter, for homeless men who find the shelters are full.
- Movie Screening: shows a movie in the sanctuary on a Social Action topic.
- Soup Kitchen: UUCGV works the 2nd Saturday at the Catholic Outreach soup kitchen. There are 2 shifts: cooking using ingredients provided (9am - 11:30am); and serving/cleanup (11:30am - 2pm). Both shifts are welcome to have lunch before the doors open to the public at 12:00.
- Organizes various protests, rallies & marches: Works with other groups in the Grand Valley, such as G.V. Peace and Justice, and others.
- Plans and delivers occasional Sunday services: on topics chosen by the group.
- Public speakers: Works with external groups and political groups to provide evening speakers on forums and various topics.
- CROP Hunger Walk: Fundraising for and participates in the annual walk for hunger.
- Alternative Christmas Fair: Participates in Grand Valley Peace and Justice's annual event.
